Alex James LeJeune

Yes, I know this is way overdue!!! But actually today (May 23) was Alex's original due date! He decided to come almost 2 weeks early on May 10 at 10:53am. 8 pounds, 15 ounces!!! My doctor had estimated the week before that he was "about 7-7 1/2 pounds. If you go to term, he'll be maybe 8 pounds." HA!!!!

I had been having contractions off and on all day Mother's Day, but Mr. Alex decided to make his appearance the next morning. I woke up about 5am Monday morning and soon after, my water broke. Woke Derek up and we realized that Emily's daycare didn't open until 6:30.

Rather than call someone to pick her up or take her with us, we decided to wait it out at the house! Needless to say, the nurses weren't too happy to hear this when we showed up at 7am. They couldn't believe I was in labor and smiling from ear to ear. Are you kidding me??? I was so excited to meet our baby boy and NOT BE BIG AND PREGNANT ANYMORE!!! :)

They called Dr. Shimer, who was on call and he said he'd be in at 10 for my c-section. Once we got into the delivery room, we got a pleasant surprise when my doctor, Dr. Sara came in on her day off to help with the delivery.

Alex James LeJeune made his debut at 10:53am, weighing in at a whopping 8 pounds, 15.6 ounces and 20 inches long. He came out fighting, peeing on his nurses 3 times before they could get a diaper on him. Size 1 diapers, by the way, not newborns!

We were very blessed to have wonderful nurses take care of Alex and me. We knew a lot of them from working at the hospital, so that made it even more special.

We got visits from Emily and Grom and Poppa Larry every afternoon. We soon realized that Emily wasn't quite warm to the idea of a new baby in the family. She told him, "Hi, Bubba" when she first saw him, then pretty much ignored him and whomever was holding him at the time. This lasted for about the first 10 days or so, but now she is slowly warming up to him, saying good morning, good night and I love you and kissing his forehead at night. We've had to make small adjustments to help her adapt, like getting 2 bouncy seats instead of giving Alex her old one. She is a good big sister and we know they will be inseparable...someday! Can't believe Emily turned 2 on April 7! Where has the time gone??? Daddy had to work, but Mommy, Granny and Poppa James took the birthday girl and Kaide to Chuck E. Cheese's to celebrate the day.

Easter 2010

Happy Easter!!! Nanny Monica, Tyler and Timmy came for a visit and we had fun at an easter egg hunt and playing a joke on the kids, making them think the Easter Bunny left poop instead of presents.

March 2010

How are the months flying by so fast??? The LeJeune's are doing fine and getting ready to grow by 2 more feet! As of today, I am 32 1/2 weeks and growing, it seems, by the hour! Baby Alex is still very active and it looks very freaky to see my belly jump, twitch and move. I don't remember Emily being this fidgety, so we may have a live wire on our hands! I was thinking the other day about the similarities and differences between Emily and Alex's pregnancies. For example, the cravings have been totally different:

EMILY

cheeseburgers, fries, pickled banana peppers, gummy bears, and grape kool-aid

ALEX

chocolate, ice cream, anything sweet, Dr. Pepper, and fruit punch kool-aid

As of my Dr's appointment this week, I have gained 23 pounds. With Emily by this time, I was probably up at least 40 pounds. Maybe running around after a toddler has kept the pounds off! Everything's looking fine and right on schedule.

I did have to quit working this week, which was a difficult decision at first, but in the end, it was the right one. Even reducing my work load to 3 days a week was still too much for me to handle. I hadn't realized how physical my job can be and I didn't want to risk going into labor early if I didn't have to. Luckily, I have a very understanding manager who let me take maternity leave early and without question. I am now in full nesting mode!

As for the other events of March, my dear friend and coworker Denise threw me a baby shower. It amazes me how special our friends make us feel! We got some really cute boy clothes and essentials. We also have been getting some beautiful gifts from friends at the hospital too. Amazing how much we're loved and blessed!

As for Miss Emily, she has had a busy month, what with the extremes in weather we've had just this past month! We had about 7 inches of snow March 21, then 70 degree temps 2 days later. And we thought Louisiana weather was crazy!

Now that the weather has warmed up, we're getting ready for Easter! Emily got to meet the big-eared guy for the first time and her obsession with Santa also translates into large fuzzy bunnies! I took her to an Easter party and literally had to pull her away from the Easter bunny 3 times! Guess that reaction is better than the terror most kids have!

The warm weather is also bringing up some company! Grom and Poppa Larry came to visit and we're getting ready for visits from Nanny Monica and the boys and Granny, Poppa James and Kaide for Easter! Here are some pics from Grom and Poppa Larry's visit. We were lucky enough to inherit a slide from Desi and Caitlyn, Emma and Chloe! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Emily loves it, and Laurie and Derek love it too!

I asked Emily to wash her cheeks in the bathtub and she reaches down to scrub her booty. Go figure!

February 2010

A rite of passage for most parents of toddlers: going to see Sesame Street Live! We went with my friend Tami and her daughter Brylee. The girls had so much fun and were so well-behaved! Don't you think they looked so awesome in their matching Elmo shirts??? Below was Emily's face the first 20 minutes of the show...pure WOW!

Well, another month gone by. I guess it's really true that time flies by faster the older you get. Or maybe we just get a little more patient. Who knows? All I know is that I am now 28 weeks pregnant and the May 23 due date is rapidly approaching.

For those who hadn't heard, baby boy has a name:

I can't remember them all, but I've had some crazy dreams over the last few months:

1. I played defense in the Super Bowl. I blocked a pass and one of the lineman was a fat asian man smoking a cigarette.

2. I apparently fell asleep the entire 2nd half of my pregnancy. (that would have been AWESOME!)

We're trying to get ready for Alex's arrival. Let me rephrase that, we're trying to get EMILY ready for Alex's arrival! We've read books about being a big sister, we're in the process of using only sippy and regular cups rather than the occasional bottle (or bob-boo, as she calls it). We're also moving her up to her Big Girl room this weekend. I think we're going to have a harder time with it than she will!

Funny Emily phrases of the month:

"Come on! Come on!"

"Come sit down, Daddy (or Mommy)" and she pats the seat next to her.

By-pers = diapers

Derek and Em were looking at a picture book the other night. Derek pointed out a picture and she looked up at him and said, "good job, Daddy!"

Still points to my belly and calls Alex "Bubba," even though she can say Alex.

We've also realized Emily gives the best hugs! She will reach around your shoulders and pat your back while she hugs you.

More Snow! 02/12/10

If you scroll down, you'll see we got snow on 02/11/10, but what we didn't expect was even MORE snow overnight! Weatherman says it was a record snowfall for DFW area. Close to 10-12 inches! It sure was pretty!Our poor snowman turned into a snowblob!
